Two injured in Weligama shooting

Two persons, aged 42 and 52, were left injured after two unidentified assailants opened fire in the Weligama area on Friday night (15 Dec.).

Accordingly, police reported that two assailants had arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at a fish store on the Galle Road, in Weligama.

The injured persons, identified as residents of Denipitiya and Welipitiya, were immediately rushed to the Walana Hospital, and were later transferred to the Matara Hospital on account of the seriousness of their injuries.

According to police, the victims have been identified as the owner and an employee of the fish store in question.

The shooting is being investigated by the Weligama Police, while stringent efforts are underway to apprehend the gunmen.
