After the relevant tests, the eggs are to be distributed through the Sathosa chain of outlets as well as to several selected supermarkets.

The government had taken steps to import eggs from India on several occasions recently in order to bring down prices due to local egg producers increasing prices of eggs on several occasions.

However, with the announcement of the government’s decision to stop the import of eggs, the price of a local egg once again increased to Rs. 55 - Rs. 65 while under the prevailing situation, the government has decided to import eggs once again.
