Appeals Court quashes findings, recommendations of political victimisation commission

The Court of Appeals has issued a writ order quashing the recommendations and findings of the Commission of Inquiry to Investigate Allegations of Political Victimization, against a group of individuals including President Ranil Wickremesinghe and National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The relevant order was issued by a three-member judge bench led by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne.

The three-member Presidential Commission of Inquiry was appointed by then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on January 20, 2020 in order to inquire into allegations of political victimization in the wake of investigations conducted by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, FCID, CID and the Special Investigation Unit of the Police from January 8, 2015 to November 16, 2019.
