Landslide threat prompts evacuation of six families in Basnakanda, Makandura

Steps have been taken to evacuate six families residing in the Basnakanda area of Makandura, Godakawela, due to the risk of a landslides.
The Divisional Secretariat stated that several large trees located on the hilltop had been uprooted and fallen as a result of the prevailing heavy rainfall.
It was further noted that, due to the risk of falling rocks, authorities decided to evacuate residents occupying the six houses in the area.
The Divisional Secretariat also stated that further action will be taken based on the report to be issued by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) regarding the condition of the area.
