
A Sri Lankan passenger was arrested this morning (19) by Sri Lanka Customs officers while attempting to smuggle a consignment of “Kush” cannabis estimated to be valued at around Rs. 75 million through the “Green Channel” of the arrival terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake.
The suspect, a 41-year-old three-wheeler driver from Dematagoda in Colombo, arrived at the Katunayake Airport at 9.35 a.m. today aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL-403 from Bangkok, Thailand, said Ada Derana reporter.
During an inspection, officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit and Airport Customs discovered approximately 7 kilograms and 500 grams of “Kush” cannabis concealed inside his luggage. The narcotics had been packed in 12 airtight packets.
Steps have been taken to hand over the suspect and the seized narcotics to officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at Katunayake Airport for further investigations.
