22nd Amendment gazetted with provisions to revise judges’ retirement age

The Twenty-Second Amendment to the Constitution Draft Bill, which includes provisions to amend the retirement age of Supreme Court and Appeals Court judges along with other amendments, has been published in the official government gazette.
The Constitutional Amendment proposes raising the mandatory retirement age of Supreme Court Justices from 65 to 67 and the retirement age of Appeals Court Judges from 63 to 65.
It also proposes that the country’s Chief Justice retire upon reaching 67 years of age or after completing 6 years in office, whichever comes first.
