The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) raided a canned fish manufacturing facility operating without a valid licence from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) in the Alabadagama area of Pannala.
The raid was conducted yesterday (7) by a team of officers from the Authority’s Competition Promotion Division following a tip-off received by the CAA.
During the operation, the officers seized a stock of canned fish valued at approximately Rs. 1.5 million.
Investigations revealed that canned fish manufactured at the facility were being distributed for sale through major supermarket chains.
Legal action is to be initiated against the establishment for manufacturing canned fish without displaying the date of manufacture, as well as for storing, selling, and distributing the products.
The suspects, along with the seized stock of canned fish, are scheduled to be produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court.
