Sri Lanka’s Dengue cases near 90,000 mark, 65 deaths reported

Sri Lanka’s dengue cases are nearing the 90,000 mark, with the latest data released by the National Dengue Control Unit today (09) showing that the total number of cases has risen to 89,395.

 

According to the latest figures, based on data recorded up to yesterday (08), the number of dengue-related deaths this year has increased to 65.

 

More than half of the total cases reported over the past six months have been recorded in the Western Province, which accounts for 47,310 cases or 52.92% of the total.

 

At district level, Gampaha continues to record the highest number of cases, with the total surpassing 19,000 (19,007) as of yesterday.

 

Colombo has recorded 17,725 cases, while Kandy ranks third with 6,341 cases.

 

The highest monthly number of dengue cases this year was recorded in July, with 29,973 cases reported during the month.

 

However, 4,048 dengue cases have already been reported during the first eight days of August alone.
