Grama Niladhari Officers have decided not to report for duty islandwide from today (10) until tomorrow (11), by taking sick leave, citing the authorities’ failure to increase their travel allowance and address several other demands, according to the Chairman of the Grama Niladhari Trade Union Alliance, Nandana Ranasinghe.
The Rs. 600 travel allowance provided to Grama Niladharis has not been increased for the past eight years, he stressed.
In 2024, Cabinet approval was granted to provide an allowance equivalent to the cost of 20 litres of fuel in place of the existing travel allowance.
Accordingly, the trade union action will be carried out island wide from today.
