Sri Lanka has recorded 1,408,620 tourist arrivals so far this year, surpassing the 1.4 million mark by August 9, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

A total of 65,202 tourists arrived in the country between August 1 and 9, the SLTDA noted.

India was the leading source of tourists during the first nine days of August, with 13,483 arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom with 7,460 and France with 5,388.

India has also remained the largest source market for Sri Lanka during the year to date, recording 351,713 arrivals. The United Kingdom ranked second with 137,861, while China accounted for 92,940 arrivals.

Meanwhile, February recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals so far this year, with 279,328 visitors.

The latest figures reflect the continued recovery and growth of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, with arrivals exceeding 1.4 million within eight months, according to the SLTDA.
