The China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) has expressed interest in expanding its investments in Sri Lanka, particularly in renewable energy, trade and logistics, and digital services, during talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (11).

President Dissanayake met a senior CCCC delegation led by Zhang Bingnan at the Presidential Secretariat, with discussions focusing on ongoing and proposed projects centred on Colombo Port City, the President’s Media Division said in a statement.

CCCC representatives said the government’s forward-looking policies and programmes had strengthened investor confidence and encouraged the company to explore further significant investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, according to the PMD.

They highlighted Sri Lanka’s potential to develop into a regional hub for renewable energy, trade and logistics, and digital services, and said the company was interested in expanding its presence in these sectors.

The Chinese company also assured that 90% of the workforce employed in its investment projects in Sri Lanka would be recruited locally, creating additional employment opportunities for Sri Lankans.

The discussions covered both projects currently being implemented and potential future investments linked to Colombo Port City, the PMD added.

Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, President’s Chief of Staff Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Senior Economic Adviser Duminda Hulangamuwa, Senior Additional Secretary Roshan Gamage, and Colombo Port City Economic Commission Chairman, President’s Counsel Harsha Amarasekera, were among those present.

Senior officials from CCCC, China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) and CHEC Sri Lanka also participated in the meeting.
