Two suspects who allegedly fled to India after a fatal shooting at a birthday party held at a hotel in Wattala on the night of July 23 have been arrested upon their arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake.

According to Police, the suspects had escaped to India illegally by boat following the incident, during which gunmen stormed the celebration, opened fire, and killed one individual.

The two men were subsequently apprehended by Indian security authorities and deported to Sri Lanka, said police.

Prior to their arrival, Indian authorities had informed officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stationed at BIA regarding the deportation of the suspects from Chennai.

The suspects, aged 30 and 34, are residents of the Wattala area. Upon their arrival at the airport, CID officers recorded their preliminary statements before handing them over to the Western Province North Crimes Division for further investigations.

Police investigations into the shooting incident are continuing.
