A person who was allegedly secretly gathering information about prison officers has been arrested by the Sahaspura Police.

According to the Police, the suspect was a close associate of Mohamed Azman Sherifdeen, who died during the recent unrest at the New Magazine Prison.

The suspect is also reported to have served as the motorcycle rider for Azman, who was allegedly involved in a double murder committed on Watarappala Road in Dehiwala last year.

Police said the suspect had been released on bail three days before the unrest at the New Magazine Prison.

Investigations have further revealed that he was a close associate of an overseas-based organized criminal figure known as “Kos Malli.”

Following his arrest, Police examined the suspect’s mobile phone and had recovered several audio recordings of conversations he had with “Kos Malli.”

The conversations reportedly contained information gathered about prison officers, including references to preparations to harm them, according to Police.
