22-year-old arrested with foreign cigarettes at BIA
A 22-year-old individual has been arrested with a stock of foreign cigarettes allegedly smuggled into Sri Lanka, the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) said.
Officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau's Katunayake Airport Sub-Unit had conducted an operation at the airport’s arrival terminal yesterday (15), based on information received by the officials.
Upon inspection, the officers had arrested the suspect with 54 cartons containing 10,800 sticks of foreign cigarettes that had allegedly been illegally brought into the country.
The suspect is a resident of the Uhumiya area, police stated.
The PNB Airport Unit is conducting further investigations into the incident.
