Sri Lanka Police have launched a special real-time information management system to assist the general public and devotees attending the historic Kandy Esala Perahera, which begins tomorrow (18).
The system has been introduced to provide visitors with easy access to important information throughout the Perahera period, including traffic restrictions, roadblocks, security arrangements, vehicle and pedestrian checks, parking facilities and guidance for visitors.
According to police, the public will also be able to obtain information on the Perahera route, suitable viewing locations, sanitary facilities and designated locations for locating missing persons.
The information system is accessible through the official Sri Lanka Police website by selecting the “Kandy Esala Perahera” link.
A dedicated website has also been established for the event to provide the public with relevant information.
Police said the system is intended to reduce unnecessary travel and enable devotees and visitors to make informed decisions using real-time information, thereby saving time and making their journeys more convenient.
The service can be accessed using a mobile phone, tablet or computer, allowing the public to obtain information from any location during the Perahera period.
Police said the system was also developed with the aim of enhancing the safety and convenience of devotees, visitors and their family members during the event.
The public has been requested to make use of the service when travelling to Kandy for the Perahera.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Police have announced that a special security programme will be in operation throughout the Kandy Esala Perahera.
