
The dengue-related deaths so far in 2026, has increased to 69 while the total number of dengue cases has climbed to 92,854, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The latest figures put the dengue case fatality rate at 0.07%, highlighting the continued health burden posed by the mosquito-borne disease, the NDCU noted.
Dengue cases have fluctuated significantly during the year, with July recording the highest monthly total of 29,964 cases, followed by June with 21,533 cases. A further 7,516 cases were recorded in August.
Monthly case figures stood at 7,866 in January, 5,721 in February, 6,013 in March, 5,651 in April and 8,590 in May.
The Gampaha District has recorded the highest number of cases at 19,778, accounting for 21.30% of the total. Colombo follows with 18,433 cases (19.85%), while Kandy has reported 6,695 cases (7.21%).
The NDCU has identified 96 high-risk Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas across the country as authorities continue efforts to control the spread of dengue.
