The Attorney General has informed the Colombo High Court that an appeal has been filed against a recent court order holding that charges filed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) against alleged drug trafficker “Harak Kata” and several other defendants cannot be maintained.
The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala today (20).
A State Counsel appearing for the prosecution informed the court that the Attorney General had filed an appeal against the earlier ruling.
The appeal challenges the court’s decision regarding the maintainability of the charges brought under the PTA against “Harak Kata” and the other accused.
The latest development follows the Colombo High Court’s recent determination that the PTA charges against the defendants could not be maintained.
