Sri Lanka’s total export earnings exceeded US$10 billion during the first seven months of 2026, reaching US$10.437 billion from January to July.
The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), Mangala Wijesinghe disclosed the figures at a media briefing held today (31) at the Department of Government Information on the country’s export performance in July 2026.
He said this was the first time Sri Lanka had recorded export earnings of US$10.437 billion during the first seven months of a year.
Merchandise exports contributed US$8.188 billion to the total, while exports from the services sector generated US$2.199 billion.
According to Wijesinghe, Sri Lanka recorded total exports worth US$1.637 billion in July alone, based on Sri Lanka Customs data. Of this, merchandise exports accounted for US$1.285 billion, while services exports contributed US$351 million.
Several sectors contributed to the growth in export earnings during the first seven months, with tea and coconut-based products among the key contributors. The rubber industry, food and beverages, electrical and electronic products, gems and jewellery, and spices also recorded notable growth.
The services sector showed strong performance, particularly in information technology-related services, while the logistics sector also recorded significant growth during the period.
However, tea exports recorded a decline in growth compared with the corresponding period last year.
EDB Chairman Wijesinghe attributed the slowdown in tea exports to disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East, which he said had created difficulties in exporting Sri Lankan tea and affected the country’s ability to meet its targets during the first seven months of the year.
