A total of four people have been injured and admitted to the Mawanella Base Hospital following a road accident in the ‘Gadol Bridge’ area of Mawanella.
According to the Mawanella Police, the accident occurred this afternoon (31) when a van travelling from Aranayaka towards Mawanella town collided head-on with a tipper truck transporting sand, which was travelling from Mawanella towards Ussapitiya.
Police said the tipper truck involved in the accident had been transporting sand under a valid permit.
Four occupants of the van sustained injuries in the collision and were subsequently taken to the Mawanella Base Hospital for treatment.
A hospital spokesperson said one of the injured individuals is in critical condition.
The Mawanella Police are conducting further investigations into the accident.
