Three more suspects, including two Pakistani nationals, have been arrested in connection with the seizure of nearly 463 kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’), from two containers at the Colombo Port earlier today (31).

According to police, the arrests were made by officers of the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau (CCIB) as investigations into the drug consignment continue.

The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth more than Rs. 8 billion, police said.

The raid was carried out jointly by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the CCIB based on information received by the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Crimes and Traffic Division.

Two suspicious containers were inspected and opened with the assistance of Sri Lanka Customs, following which the suspected narcotics were recovered and weighed.

Police said the drug consignment had been concealed inside towels in the containers.

Investigations are underway to determine who was responsible for importing the large-scale consignment of narcotics into Sri Lanka and to identify others connected to the racket.
