Madampe Police have arrested a 20-year-old youth for allegedly subjecting a 13-year-old girl to repeated sexual abuse.
The suspect, a resident of the Hiruwalpola area in Bingiriya, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother.
The victim’s father is currently in remand custody, while her mother, who had been overseas, returned to Sri Lanka on August 1.
During her mother’s absence, the girl had been living at the same residence with her grandmother, aunt, and siblings. Investigations have revealed that the suspect had also been residing in the same house.
The girl reportedly told her mother after her return that the suspect had repeatedly sexually assaulted her when no one else was present at the residence.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation into the incident.
The girl has been referred to the Judicial Medical Officer at the Chilaw General Hospital for further medical examination.
The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Chilaw Magistrate’s Court, while Madampe Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
