
A total of 88,068 people from 27,475 families have been affected by the prevailing dry weather conditions in the country, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
The DMC said the situation has affected 28 Divisional Secretariat Divisions across six districts, with drinking water being distributed in 27 of the affected divisions.
The largest number of people receiving drinking water is in Monaragala, where 37,890 people from 11,751 families are being assisted, the DMC noted. In Batticaloa, drinking water is being provided to 28,523 people from 9,547 families.
Water distribution is also being carried out in Ampara, Badulla, Polonnaruwa and Ratnapura, covering a further 14,955 people from 5,750 families, according to the Disaster Management Centre.
