Fairly heavy rainfall expected in some parts of the island

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts after 2.00 p.m, today (06), the Department of Meteorology said.  

 

Fairly heavy rainfall above 75 mm are likely at some places in Uva and Eastern provinces.

 

A few showers will occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, it stated.

 

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers, the Met. Department added.

 

The sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28 August to 07 September due to its apparent southward relative motion.

 

The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today are Bentota, Thiniyawala, Iththakanda, Udawalawe, and Kataragama about 12.08 noon.
