Modernization work on the Hingurakgoda Railway Station in the Polonnaruwa District has commenced under a program aimed at upgrading facilities at 100 railway stations across the island.

The project is being implemented as a public-private partnership under the national “Clean Sri Lanka” program.

The official launch of the project was held under the patronage of Bimal Rathnayake, Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, with the participation of representatives from both the public and private sectors.

Located between the Gal Oya and Polonnaruwa railway stations on the Eastern Railway Line, the Hingurakgoda Railway Station currently operates with minimal facilities and has not undergone significant development for nearly 45 years.

The station is extensively used not only by passengers but also for the transportation of various agricultural products. The modernization project is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 million.
