A 37-year-old man was killed in an attack carried out by his younger brother using a sharp weapon in the Pethigamuwa Kanda area of Anguruwatota.

According to the police, the victim, a resident of Haltota, was allegedly assaulting his mother last night (18) when his 35-year-old younger brother attacked him with a machete in an attempt to protect their mother.

The mother, who sustained injuries from the assault, has been admitted to the Horana District General Hospital.

Investigations have revealed that the deceased frequently engaged in quarrels and clashes at home while under the influence of alcohol, police said.

It is reported that the deceased had previously assaulted his father as well, causing injuries for which the father had also received treatment at the Horana Hospital.

The 35-year-old suspect, who is the younger brother of the deceased, has been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

Anguruwatota Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
