The government led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake marks two years in power today (21), following the 2024 Presidential Election.

The National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake won the Presidential Election held on September 21, 2024, and was sworn in as the country’s ninth Executive President.

At the election, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake secured 5,634,915 votes, representing 42.31% of the vote, while Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate Sajith Premadasa received 4,363,035 votes.

As no candidate secured more than 50% of the votes on the first preference, the second-preference votes had to be counted.

Following the addition of the second-preference votes, Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected as the new President after securing a total of 5,740,179 votes.

Subsequently, at the Parliamentary General Election held in November 2024, the National People’s Power secured a majority of 159 seats, enabling it to establish a stable government.

However, to mark two years since the current government came to power, a series of large-scale public rallies has been organized across the island under the theme, “Two years strong. Progress for all.”

The series of public rallies, held under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is aimed at informing the public about the achievements of the government over the past two years, the development programmes implemented, and its future vision.
