
Authorities have decided to grant the public a few more days in order to visit the Upper Kotmale tunnel. People will be able to visit and observe the tunnel from 17th to 21stNovember, the Ministry of Power and Energy stated.
The additional time period has been granted due to large numbers of people flocking to see the tunnel, the Ministry added.
The tunnel, which is considered the longest tunnel in the country was previously open for viewing to the public for three days from 5thNovember.
The Upper Kotmale tunnel was opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the 4th. The tunnel which is 12.9 Km in length and has a diameter of 5.2 metres is to carry water from the Kotmale stream to the power station.
