Clinical Royal College Colombo defeated error-stricken Trinity College Kandy 15-05 in the first leg of the 79th Bradby Shield at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium, Pallekele this evening (23).

The Royalists started this year’s Bradby impressively scoring back-to-back tries and taking an early 12-0 lead to stun the home team supporters.

Trinity got on the scoring sheet only in the 23rd minute with a beautifully worked try by the backs to bring the score to 12-05.

Royalists were then reduced to 14 players after a yellow card for dangerous play.

Despite a player down, Royalists continued to put the Trinity side under pressure and ended up getting a penalty in front of the post, which was contested.

Royal led 15-05 at lemons.

In the second half, Trinity missed out on a number of scoring opportunities handing crucial advantage to the visitors through unforced errors.

Although, Royal failed to capitalise on the errors, they did have enough cushion to take to the second leg in fortnights time.

The second leg of the 79th Bradby Shield is scheduled to be played at the Royal College Sports Complex on September 6.
