
Former cricket captain and District Coach Bernard Perera has passed away due to a possible kidney problem.
He was an outstanding cricketer for St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota and Kandy CC, which earned him recognition as a member of the national squad in the early eighties. He also coached for St. Anthony’s College and Trinity College Kandy. He was a member of the first Sri Lankan Test squad when they played against England at the P. Sara cricket stadium.
He also became the Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year of the year 1976.
He played for the rebel team that toured South Africa under the captaincy of Bandula Warnapura, which led to him being banned from cricket.
