Sawan Serasinghe is a male National badminton player from Australian had a gluttonous meal after crashing out of Rio 2016.
Serasinghe’s meals consisted of forty nuggets, six brownies, six portions of large fries, two chicken burgers, two hamburgers, a big mac and a quarter pounder which contain about 8,000 calories.
Serasinghe admitted he was disappointed to have lost his final match at the Olympics, but after “months” of clean eating he was keen to go all-out on the smorgasbord of calorific treats.
Sharing a picture on Instagram, he wrote “Wow what a week it has been in Rio! Have to say I am disappointed about the match today. We definitely had a good chance to stretch the match to three sets toward the end of the second set but couldn’t close it out.
We would have loved to end our first Olympic campaign with a win against a much higher ranked pair. Although having said that, there are lots of good things to learn from the matches in the last three days playing against more experienced pairs.
Can’t wait to go back home to start training and keep on improving! Just want to say thanks again to everyone back home for the ongoing support. Definitely motivated me to fight hard on court everyday! Now it’s time to eat some junk food after months of eating clean!
Free McDonald’s has been on offer to the athletes at the Olympic village in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Serasinghe was born on February 21, 1994 at Galle, Sri Lanka and moved to Australia when he was 11 years old. He started playing badminton at age 6. Serasinghe’s first International experience was at the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival where he competed in the men’s doubles with Chau and also took the court in the men’s singles competition while his first winning International tournament was XD 2014 Sydney International Challenge.
Serasinghe, who studies Bachelor of Business Information Systems at Monash University, also won the “Monash Full Blue Award” and Serendib awards 2015 for young sports category.
Serasinghe’s first Olympic appearance was at the 2016 Rio Olympics competing in the Men’s doubles with Matthew Chau. They headed as the 46th highest ranked pairing in the world. He trains at the National Training Center in Melbourne. He also won Oceania Championships titles with Chau in 2015 and 2016. He also won the 2014 Sydney International Challenge mixed doubles (with Setyana Mapasa), against some of the best players in the world.
Serasinghe is not the first Olympian to feast on McDonald’s as Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, prepared for his London 2012 Olympic by eating chicken nuggets, and he also claimed that he ate 1000 chicken nuggets at 2008 Beijing Olympics
