Actor Jamie Bell is set to star in the new TV series of Peaky Blinders, which will be set in the 1950s.
The next generation of the Shelby family will see Bell, known for his roles in Rocketman and All of us Strangers, take on the role of Duke Shelby, in two new series of the smash-hit show.
Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton is also confirmed to join the cast alongside Downton Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay and The Day Of The Jackal star Lashana Lynch.
The story of the Birmingham-based crime family will be set 10 years after current movie Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
The new series will explore the aftermath of World War Two on the city as it follows the “older, wiser, more ambitious and more dangerous” Duke.
It will also feature the TV debut of actor Lucy Karczewski.
Knight said: “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast.
“There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.”
Production of the serieds is the first commission after a new BBC partnership agreement signed with West Midlands Combined Authority and Create Central to expand BBC and partner production, backed by an annual £40m investment in the West Midlands.
Produced by Banijay UK’s Kudos and Garrison Drama for the BBC and Netflix, the new series is being filmed in and around Digbeth Loc. Studios, close to Birmingham city centre.
The two series will each feature six 60-minute episodes and will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK and on Netflix globally.
