VIDEO: Govt blasting US while accepting their aid - Tissa

The UNP today charged that the impeachment of the former Chief Justice has led to Sri Lanka being disgraced, through the allegations made by the US, Canada, UK as well as various international organizations including the Commonwealth and the UN.

UNP MP Tissa Attanayake stated that Sri Lanka is at the verge of losing its chance of hosting the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) as a result of the impeachment.

Sources say that a majority of countries have opposed the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting being held in Sri Lanka and that the Commonwealth Secretary-General will decide on this after visiting the island in February, he said.

The UNP parliamentarian stated that after the US had expressed its stance regarding the impeachment a top state official had basically stated that “we (the govt) will work with China. America can get lost.”

“Is this being said true to their hearts,” Attanayake inquired.

According to reports released by the US, Sri Lanka had obtained loans amounting to US$ 2.7 million from America last year and this year we are expecting US$ 16.5 million, he told reporters in Colombo today.

“The government is telling America to get loss, while taking money from them under the table,” he accused.

The UNP General Secretary further claimed that during the impeachment the government behaved like “IRC karayo”. He stated that the government stooped to that level to sack the Chief Justice, to pass the impeachment and demonstrate in front of courts.
