The UNP claims that the government is undermining itself adding that the members of the government are openly criticizing its decisions in the media signaling a split within its ranks.
UNP Media Spokesman MP Gayantha Karunathilaka said that when the former Power and Energy Minister says one thing, the current Minister says something against it adding that this is a clear indication of the crisis within the government.
Speaking at a media conference in Colombo today (April 29) the MP pointed out that the corruption and wastage within state institutions is rising while political interferences and substandard deals are also increasing, pointing to the Ceylon Electricity Board and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation as being heavy burdens on the public.
He stated that even though the government had promised to intervene in increasing private sector salaries, nothing has been done about it as yet and that 85% of private sector workers are earning low salaries.
He also warned the public that the government may attempt to fool them by reducing an insignificant amount from the electricity tariff which was increased last week while stating that the only answer to the problem was to fully abolish the proposed increase.
