UPDATE: Excise duty on alcohol and beer increased

Excise duty on alcohol and beer has been increased with immediate effect, the Finance Ministry stated.

Price of a litre of Arrack will be increased by Rs.25-30 while a litre of beer will be increased by Rs.10.

Earlier today the prices of cigarettes were alsoincreased by Rs. 2 and Rs.3 with effect from today.

The excise duty on tobacco, cigarettes, liquor and ethyl alcohol was revised with effect from 31 July 2013 as per the periodical tax revisions, which are made annually to ensure the generation of estimated revenue from these items, the Finance Ministry said.
