The group of prisoners who had climbed a prison roof at the Bogambara prison in Kandy, called off their protest following talks with MP Namal Rajapaksa.

A group of inmates who have been sentenced to death and several other who are serving life sentences had launched the protest on Friday, demanding that their sentences be reduced or that they be pardoned.

The protesters say that 5 inmates who were acquaintances of Minister S.B. Dissanayake were recently pardoned by the President and plead that they be meted with similar treatment.
