Admin powers of executive presidency led to war victory- Gotabaya

December 16, 2014   01:18 pm

While expressing that the international community still attempts to summon Sri Lankan Government to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa pointed out that the administrative powers of the executive presidency assisted and led the war victory.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa made the observation at last night’s TV Derana 360 programme. He added that international pressure on the island nation proves the fact that some pro-LTTE elements, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), and even the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) still attempt to build pressure against the government.

The Defence Secretary said that international pressure will continue under any government in future, so the opposition must act practically in such case, without limiting their assurance to protect the Tri-Forces to just an oral statement.

Rajapaksa also said that it was a positive result to have Kumaran Pathmanathan captured and keep him under their care, following the defeat of LTTE after three decades of conflict.

The Defence Secretary also pointed out that continuous raids carried out on drug peddlers, in past few years, have led to large number of such cases reported in a year. He added that the drug mafia existed here even before 2005 and the government has done everything to wipe away the underworld and drug existence.
