Health Minister and Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr Rajitha Senaratne today said that he does not believe the term of Sri Lanka’s Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran will be extended when it ends on June 30.

Responding to questions from reporters on the topic during the weekly cabinet briefing in Colombo, he said that it is in the hands of the President and that he would take the necessary step.

“I was against since his appointment,” he said, adding that he raised objections to the decision to appoint Mr Mahendran to the post from the day it was proposed to the Cabinet.

However, he assured that the ‘good governance’ government will take a ‘good governance’ decision regarding the matter.
