MP Jayantha Samaraweera arrested

UPFA MP Jayantha Samaraweera has been arrested by the the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID), a short while ago. 

The Kalutara District Parliamentarian, who is a member of the National Freedom Front (NFF), was arrested after he appeared before to give a statement regarding alleged misuse of government vehicles. 

He was arrested in connection with an ongoing probe into the misuse of Presidential Secretariat vehicles in the Presidential Election campaign in 2015.

The FCID is investigating a complaint that 13 private vehicles hired by the Presidential Secretariat and handed over to the Ministry of Housing Construction and Engineering Services was given to the NFF for use during the Presidential Election campaign.
