President orders probe into nightclub attack

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed relevant authorities to launch a full-scale investigation into the recent attack on a nightclub in Colombo, which his son has been accused of being involved in.

The night club attack took place in early hours of Saturday (08) when a group allegedly attacked Club Clique, injuring one guard and damaging property.

The following day social media and certain local websites had posted reports implicating Daham Sirisena, the President’s only son, in the incident.

Certain accusations have been directed towards the President’s son Daham Sirisena with this regard, Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Karunarathne Paranawithana told reporters in Colombo today (12).

At this moment the President has taken a decision to carry out a thorough investigation and he has instructed the police to do so, he said. “We will see what the results of the investigations are.”

Addressing the Cabinet Press Briefing, he said that be there a police complaint or not, because there are certain reports appearing on the incident and as Daham Sirisena’s name has been dragged into this, the President himself has instructed the police to investigate it.

At the same time the presidential investigations unit has also launched an investigations into the incident, he added.
