The initial batch of 150 former Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres who were rehabilitated by the government received their letters of appointment from the apparel manufacturer Tri Star Apparel Pte. Ltd. of Ratmalana at Poontottam in Vavuniya. They will enjoy the same salaries and all other benefits received by the others in the apparel group. The company is to employ a total of 1,200 former LTTE cadres in its factories at Trincomalee and Vavuniya. The government is looking at obtaining employment to some 11,000 such cadres who have been rehabilitated and this action by this group of companies holds promise of more private sector establishments coming forward to lend their support.
