‘Janapathi Prashansa’ Awards Ceremony…

The ‘Janapathi  Prashansa’ awards ceremony to felicitate Police officers who played a major role in making the concept of ‘Mathin Nidahas Ratak’, a success was held at 10.00 a.m. today (28) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

The awards ceremony was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. Nearly 1,034 Police officers who were actively involved in dangerous drug raids and prevention activities during the period from January 14, 2015, to January 14, 2019, were felicitated at the occasion.

Awards were given under three categories and accordingly, 15 officers were awarded the Presidential Medal of Police Gallantry, 59 officers with Sri Lanka Police Gallantry Medal and the rest with Janadipathi Prashansa certificates.

A series of programmes were conducted during the last two weeks under the theme of ‘Surakshitha Hetak – Maithri Palanayak’ and this awards ceremony has been organized as a part of that.

According to the ‘Maithri Palanayak – Sthawara Ratak’ (Compassionate or Maithri Governance – a stable country) concept of President Maithripala Sirisena social, economic and cultural background has been created to make a drug free Sri Lanka.

Under the supervision of President Maithripala Sirisena, the Presidential Task Force on the Prevention of Drugs was appointed to reduce the manufacturing, transportation, and marketing of illicit drugs by 80 percent by 2020.
