Queen’s Baton Relay 2022 reaches Sri Lanka...

January 4, 2022

The Queen’s Baton Relay, the precursor to the Commonwealth Games 2022 which is scheduled to kick off on July 28 and end on August 08, is on its second day and has made its way to the hill capital in Kandy on Monday (January 03).

During the morning session, the baton was taken to the Victoria Dam where a colourful cultural ceremony was held to mark its presence there.

The welcome speech was made by the President, CGA Mr. Suresh Subramaniam at the Victoria Dam.

This was followed by an educational programme organised by the British Council where more than 100 students took part in an art and modal baton exhibition depicting the values and significance of the QBR.

Sri Lanka is the 25th location where Her Majesty The Queen has placed her message to the Commonwealth into the Baton, signifying the start of a 294-day Relay through the 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth.

The QBR celebrations would wind up with a visit to the official residence of the Sri Lankan Prime Minister before making its departure to Bangladesh.
