Nikini Poya at Kelaniya Temple…

The Nikini Full Moon Poya Day, which holds significant historical and religious importance, falls today (08). Nikini Poya is the second Poya Day in the ‘Vas’ season and occurs in August. It commemorates the first Dhamma Sangayana (Convocation of Buddhist Monks). The Vas retreat, which begins with Esala Poya, continues through Nikini Poya. This Poya is also regarded as important for strengthening the relationship between temples and the laity. Accordingly, a large number of devotees have been visiting temples including the Kelaniya Temple (as pictured above) since this morning to engage in religious observances and rituals.
