Sri Lanka Air Force conducted  recce missions to support on going relief operations by assessing damage and also seeking out arias and people who needed assi9stance most Neglecting the prevailing weather conditions, a Bell 212 helicopter was air borne from SLAF Base Katunayaka to perform the recce mission for the damage assessment and flood relief. The chopper flew low over the generally flood affected areas such as Kadawatha, kolonnawa, Kelaniya, Orugodawatta, Dematagoda, Maligawatta, Panchicawatta, Maradana, Borella, Kaduwela, parliament area, Nawala, Koswatta, Battaramulla, Pelawatta, Meegoda, Dehiwala, Nugegoda, Ratmalana, Aththidiya and Boralesgamuwa.
