June 21, 2011

A protest organized by the Federation of Self-Employees calling for authorities to impose a ban on ‘Nano Taxis’ was held today (June 21) at Hyde Park in Colombo. The protesters, consisting mainly of three wheel drivers, demanded the government to “Protect the Three Wheeler Industry” claiming that the arrival of Nano Taxis had affected their occupation. India’s Tata Nano, billed as the world’s cheapest car, entered Sri Lanka’s taxi market on June 09. (Pic by Sanjeewa Lasantha)
