Sri Lanka Navy has decided to educate the country’s fishermen on International Maritime Boundary Lines and how to avoid crossing these boundaries when fishing in deep sea, said Navy spokesman Captain Athula Senarath.

This was agreed upon when Officers of the Sri Lankan Navy on Wednesday (29 September) held talks with Indian Navy personnel on board the INS Kukri, an offshore patrol vessel, at the International Maritime Boundary Line near Point Calimere.

A number of issues, including the post-war scenario, security challenges along the International Maritime Boundary Line and poaching by fishermen of both countries were discussed at the mid-sea meeting.
