Police to accept illegal firearms in East

An order has been issued to hand over all unlicensed weapons in the Eastern Province to the police. It is stated that anybody in possession of unlicensed firearms should hand it over to the nearest police station before 30th October.

 

The senior DIGin charge of the Eastern Province Edison Gunathilaka stated that every police station in the Eastern province has been notified on the matter. He said that these measures were taken after the police received information regarding large numbers of illegal firearms in the province.

 

The Senior DIG further added that legal action will be taken against anybody in possession of unlicensed weapons after October 30th.
