Train kills jumbo parents, babies refuse to leave

October 3, 2010   11:41 pm

The night mail from Trincomalee to Colombo had knocked down and killed two elephants on the rail tracks between Gal Oya and Kantale late this evening. The accident had delayed the train but it has resumed its journey towards Colombo, a source at the scene told Adaderana.

However, the accident had apparently raised sympathy towards two baby elephants which have refused to leave the scene of the accident for some time. The dead pachyderms are believed to be the parents of these two babies and parental love apparently was keeping them glued to the spot.

Onlookers have been so moved by this scene that many had commented on the baby elephants’ affection which they claim is slowly but surely eroding from most of the Homo sapiens or in simpler words, the humans.
