Political parties are attempting to mislead the people of the country and to create a state of mind using the punishment imposed on Sarath Fonseka for their own political gains, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said.

Speaking at a press briefing today he said that the opposition and the JVP are making statements around the country using Sarath Fonseka’s plight as a topic due to them having no other topic to talk about.

He said that protests have been organized in England using the children of Sarath Fonseka and that it is evident that they are being supported by Pro-LTTE factions residing there. Thus they are vying to strengthen their political campaigns by claiming that Sarath Fonseka is a political prisoner and by keeping him behind bars, he added.
