New alliance led by Anura Yapa formed as ‘People’s Alliance’

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) faction led by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and the “New Alliance” today (14) launched a new alliance under the name “Podujana Eksath Peramuna” (People’s Alliance). 

Former minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has been named as the leader of the new alliance. 

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna has been appointed as the General Secretary, while State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake has been appointed as the Treasurer.

This new alliance, which includes the SLFP faction led by Nimal Siripala, the “New Alliance” which comprises of MPs including  Nimal Lanza and several others parties and groups, was officially formed in Colombo today (14). 

During the event, SLFP Treasurer State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna announced the positions within the alliance, which also includes a leadership council of 21 members including the Chairman of SLFP, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.

The newly-formed alliance plans to contest the upcoming elections under the symbol of the ‘chair’.
